"Sometimes friends fuck." The world according to Lucy Lively.

"Sometimes friends fuck." The world according to Lucy Lively. What is it about this line that makes me laugh so hard? I'm not sure, but it's yet another moment that Afton brings Lucy to life in an unexpected and surprising way. And sometimes when friends fuck.....they get pregnant. Lucy is pregnant. That's right boys and girls. That kid is the product of a teenage prostitute and a young Hollywood starlet. That should make for one interesting kid. On the other side of town we have the sister of that starlet and the teenage prostitute's one time client back together again. They aren't exactly back together, but it's fun to see Thomas back in the mix again after having him spend the entirety of our second season in jail. Of all people for him to turn to he chooses Marin. They are probably more domestic now then when they were an actual couple!
No one seems to be as bad off as Jake though. Lucy may be pregnant, Thomas may be on the run, but Jake is the only one who is really alone. This poor kid can't catch a break! He went from being a teenage prostitute to falling in love with one of his two foster dads to being back out on the street. At least he managed to find a room that he could afford? We only got a glimpse of Jake's landlady, Leslie, but we will be seeing some more of her!
I love love love the scene between Evan, Cane, and Katherine. We don't give the Havens a whole lot of lighthearted moments. We probably didn't need to address the almost kiss between cousins, but a.) it's always good to bring it back. These events don't happen in a vacuum and b.) i love this scene. I loved it when I wrote it and then our actors ran with it and the scene was exactly like I pictured it in my head. I remember back in my early days of watching General Hospital the Quartermaines having scenes like that...all in a room together bantering and making fun of each other, but the affection is there. There aren't too many Havens who are fond of one another, but I think that we managed to find the three that are and put them in a scene together.
And what about that ending...did you see it coming? While Sandra is off plotting with Irving, Cubbie is at home discovering all of her misdeeds(well not all of them, I don't think that anyone could discover all of her misdeeds!) Tsk Tsk Sandra. She probably should have covered her tracks a little better if she was going to re-open that particular room, but all things considered she went a long time without being discovered. I'm glad Sandra wasn't worried about it. Any good soap pa doesn't actually consider the possibility that she is going to get caught, and when she does she always has a plan B....so stay tuned! :)
I have good news and bad news about the next episode. The bad news is that there isn't going to be a new episode next week. The GOOD NEWS is that we are going to have a video sneak peek so you won't have to go a Tuesday completely Empire free. We will be back on Tuesday, November 30th with out third episode of the season!
Have a fantastic Thanksgiving!!! Not this year, but maybe someday we will get to see what a Haven thanksgiving looks like.
Season 3 Is Almost Here
by BRIAN (NOVEMBER 4, 2010)
I can hardly believe that we are about to start our third season. It feels like just yesterday that Greg and I were roommates sitting in our living room talking about the Haven’s as chemists.
That’s right at one point the Haven’s were almost chemists, and then we realized we didn’t really know anything about chemists and it might be a better idea to have them run a tabloid newspaper. And that is where the name Empire came from. It’s the title of the paper, it’s the empire of this family. The pieces all fell together. Greg and I really thought out what we wanted this show to be. The first three seasons were pretty intricately mapped out in our heads.
That’s not to say that we locked ourselves in, but we knew where we wanted these characters to go. There were some surprises along the way. Theodora is not a character that we had originally concieved, but then the fantastic Tina Sloan brought her to life and we couldn’t help but weave her into our canvas! Rachel and Rodney were minor characters that spoke to both Greg and I. In the first season there is a mention of Rodney, and all during filming our cast would ask if we were ever going to meet Rodney. Greg and I promptly replied no. Guess what? Greg and I were wrong because Rodney not only showed up but started dating Rachel. Rachel was only supposed to be in a couple of scenes as a sassy receptionist and that character was so much fun to write that Greg and I just kept increasing her role and increasing her role. She is a big part of season 3. It didn’t hurt that Lise Fisher (who plays Rachel) was one of our top 3 choices when casting season 1… but we only had 2 female roles. We jumped at the chance to bring her onboard.
Season 3 is full of a lot of exciting twists and turns. I really hope everyone out there watching likes what we have in store for these characters. There are going to be some fun surprises and some fun payoffs to some of our more long-standing characters.
And are you watching the Further Adventures of Lucy Lively and von Hottie? If not, you should be. They are hysterical and Afton Boggiano and Laura Von Holt are an amazing comedic duo.
